Myanmar Hacks – Know Before You Go Myanmar is a country of outstanding beauty and culture. Our trip to Myanmar was fantastic and we would recommend it to everyone, however are a few little pieces of advice that we would like to pass on. Myanmar’s Buses Transport between Myanmar’s major locations is convenient and expansive. Many tourists choose to take night buses to maximise their time and save on accommodation costs. However there is one thing that you should all know. Night buses in Myanmar have an rather strange habit of arriving much earlier than scheduled. For example; we left Yangon around 8:30pm on a bus that was scheduled to arrive in Kalaw at 6:00am. When our bus pulled up in Kalaw at 3am we were rather surprised. At that point we had 2 choices, sit at a little roadside restaurant for 3 hours while we waited for our guest…

South East Asia is littered with culinary magic, from the curries of Thailand and Myanmar to the amok of Cambodia and the pho of Vietnam. As traveller’s continue argue the merits of pad thai over a Vietnamese bun cha, I can’t help but feel there is a cuisine that is a late arrival to the South East Asian food party. Often overlooked, possibly even neglected from the backpacking network that exists from Hanoi to Bali, the Philippines contains incredible scenery, immense diving and a cuisine that can give any nation a run for its money. We recently came back from 6 days in Tabogon, a ting village about 3 hours north of Cebu. A group of 10 (5 couples) of us shared a huge villa complete with pool, jacuzzi and private beach. Check out some of the photos below. This was the first time we had done a holiday like…

At the end of August a rather fantastic article came up on 生活小助手(Sheng1 huo2 xiao3 zhu4 shou3) a fantastic we chat subscription account. It was a wonderful collection of some of the most bizarre, inappropriate and possibly even downright offensive gifts sent by men to their significant other for Chinese Valentines Day. With a rather telling title “今年七夕最辣眼睛的礼物出炉了,真庆幸自己还是单身” – “This years valentines the most unbelievable valentines day gifts are here”. Thank god I’m still single, you know this is going to be something worth reading. Original article by 生活小助手. All photos also from 生活小助手. Translation is by the two of us. Original article can be viewed here http://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/s8hCLVqGosK2W57GhNY3rw A whole lamb? The first story describes a girl who was sent an entire lamb by her boyfriend, freshly slaughtered and sent through air mail the next day. As September draws to close, China edges closer to its National Day holiday. From October 1st until October 5th, 6th or 7th, depending on ones working schedule, kids are off school and the vast majority of the population are on holiday. Cue absolute bedlam at airports and train stations as middle kingdom goes on the move. The price of flight tickets increases dramatically during this period, sometimes by up to 2 or 3 times. Obviously, this depends on your destination, but its safe to say you will be paying more than you would do usually. When you also factor in that train tickets can sell out almost as soon as they become available you can understand how this can be a pretty miserable time to travel. However for many people in China, this holiday and the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) are the only long holidays (1 week plus)…
